Big Sandy Sand Company was established in 1947 by J.T. and G.C. Wright on the banks of Big Sandy Creek in Upshur County, Texas. It remains a family business and today is operated by Dennis Wright at it's plant located 6 miles north of Hawkins in Wood County, Texas.
In 1976 Big Sandy Sand's Hawkins Plant proved to have deposit which consisted of the finest quality sand available in Texas and possibly in the entire Southwest.
In it's short history, Big Sandy Sand Company has produced and shipped topdressing, seedbed mixes and sand trap materials for the turf industry throughout the state of Texas.
With a special interest in the turf grass industry, Big Sandy Sand utilized the most updated equipment in their sand processing operation. Their Eagle Dial Split Classifier allows for exact grain distribution in correct percentages in producing the right size and texture of sand as a topdressing agent, seedbed or rootzone medium.
